Yoga Conversations

So recently I was speaking with a friend about the future of yoga and we started to talk about the new people getting involved in the community. We started to swap stories and she shared some interesting emails with me. She is running a  scholarship program where students need to explore the benefits of yoga and this girl shared such a touching story.

I know that my essay probably won't be accepted, so I decided to hold off on writing one until I had confirmed via email with all of you, but I wanted to send you a "little" email asking for permission to still apply.

My name is Janice Edwards, I am an avid yogini with a deep sense of compassion for our worlds impoverished, I want to further my education in both areas while remaining true to my life calling.

I’ve been on this path for about two years, however, I am younger then the average yogini.  I find it hard therefore to be able to pay for such educational experiences, having to choose and dismiss certain opportunities continuously frustrates me.  I find my lack of funds has led me to become more of an independent learner, never really venturing outside my comfort zone in terms of yoga because I am never able to fully commit with such high opportunity costs involved.

I suppose this trait resides within me because of my first yoga teacher training in Costa Rica, and the training ended up being a bit of a sham.  For me, I believe yoga is where we leave our ego at the door and I believe our teachers should over exemplify this trait, along with compassion and sincerity of their yogic path… anyways, long story short, the teacher sincerely lacked a lot of “yogi qualities,” and it became more of a party for the students there. Since then, I’ve been skeptical of participating in another training because I can’t afford to throw away my life savings on something that can be so transparent.

However, my love of yoga has remained, along with my belief that I will one day have a beautiful Retreat Center in the woods; chanting and cooking Ayurveda style meals for those beautiful guests.  But life’s destinations are based on the paths we take to get there, and that is why I wanted to apply for this scholarship.
I am interested in this scholarship because of the experience and education I believe it will grant me, for the connections I may or may not make and the opportunity to plunge myself into something new and outside my comfort zone.

My choice training was in Bali because I have never been and have always wanted to go, this seems like the perfect time and place for me to travel there. Like Neale Donald Walsh said “life begins outside your comfort zone,” I believe this opportunity will show me this once again, allowing me to trust and learn more about yoga and the universes plan.

I promise that if permitted to apply you will find someone who is so dedicated and passionate about yoga. You’ll find someone who genuinely wants to be there and someone who acts as a sponge absorbing everything around her. I hope to be asked to fill this position, though I understand it’s a very competitive process.  Thanks for reading this little letter and I hope to hear from you soon.

The Tribe Yoga Teacher Training program in India will cover such topics as philosophy with a focus on The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the study of the eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. It will also cover asana practice and modifications, Self-Practice, pranayama, meditation, teaching methodologies, Kriyas, sequencing, and much more.

Wanted to pick your brains on a couple of issues. I'm still in Paraguay, there is only one Teacher Training Program and it is for Kundalini Yoga, with U.S. prices. How would one go about having courses here in Paraguay that would allow teachers to be certified with the Yoga Alliance? The reason why I'm asking is that I'm Producing a show, a Pilot, on Yoga here, and the reason why Yoga cannot be taught in schools is because there is no true certification for courses, on top of that, if we could only train more people, Yoga would certainly grow. So I'm not only hoping to create awareness on yoga, and to do that, I'm hoping that there is an infrastructure that would support all these new students interested in working toward an aware existence. So please do enlighten me

Now here is another interesting guy who sent her some random email about yoga clothing. She had no idea why he was sending it. Just thought it would be funny to share.

Ok. I knows very well about yoga clothes and benefits of yoga. both are importants. According to me, Some Yoga clothes benefits are..Yoga is all about strength, flexibility,Comfort Is Critical,Wear Clothes Made From Cotton, and agility.Your clothes should be able to stretch in any direction. While yoga is designed to be relaxing, it is also physically intense. because of this, you may sweat a lot while practicing yoga. To be comfortable, even while sweating, choose breathable fabrics for your yoga clothes. Cotton or cotton blends work wonderfully for this purpose. The pants should have a drawstring instead of an elastic waist. This will help with movement in the torso during your workout. Ladies should invest in a comfortable sports bra that provides support. You'll feel more confident, less distracted and will be able to more easily concentrate on your poses and meditation.
